Happenings
The Tasting Room is pleased to welcome three new wineries to our roster.
ONABAY VINEYARDS
Onabay Vineyards is an established 18 year old Southold vineyard. Acquired by the Anderson family, the vineyard is managed by Steve Mudd. Bruce Schneider of Schneider Vineyards is winemaker. The first releases are three chardonnays; two merlots will be released later.
The vineyard is part of a larger, historic farm that encompasses over 180 acres of fields, meadows and forests, and bay and creek frontage. The wildlife of the area inspired the Onabay wine labels, drawn by Francesa Anderson, a renowed botanical artist, whose work is unusual in that it is in black-and-white. Daughter Mia Anderson's poem also graces the labels.

On a bay, the heron wades in marsh, unseen.
So still and hush, till - at last!
A silver bloom swims past.
And she bows down to sip its delicious gleam.

SPARKLING POINTE
Long Island's first vineyard totally dedicated to making sparking wine, Sparkling Pointe is located on Route 48 in Southold. Cynthia and Tom Rosicki, lovers of French Champagne, knew they wanted to focus only on sparkling wine, so they have planted their vineyard with the three varieties traditionally used in the Champagne region - chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. Their wines are made with winemaker Gilles Martin (also consultant for our other new winery, Bouké). Their first releases are a classic 2004 Brut and a delicate salmon-colored 2004 Topaz Imperial, both made in the traditionelle methode champenoise.

SCHNEIDER NEW RELEASES!

2005 Schneider Vineyards Cabernet Franc-Petit Verdot:
This gentle monster unites the two under-appreciated varities that are used primarily for blending in Bordeaux. Schneider has discovered Petit Verdot, grown under highly restricted yields, adds a ripe, distinctive, and important age-worthy component. This wine is a blend of 68% Cabernet Franc and 32% Petit Verdot, aged for 15 months in two-thirds new and one-third seasoned French oak. It exhibits enchanting aromas of roses, lavendar, and ripe plums with blackberries, dark chocolate and mineralityon the palate that lead to a long, lingering finish. 7 barrels produced.
$42 per bottle, $504 per case (12 bottles).
FUTURES PRICE: $403 for 12 bottles (20% discount). Minimum purchase: 12 bottles.
2005 Schneider Vineyards Cabernet Franc La Cloche:
A great wine has been described as tasting like the sound of a bell ringing. Schneider has always wanted to make such a wine, and the remarkable growing season of 2005 gave them this opportunity. 2005 produced unprecendented, concetrated, ripe fruit that transforms La Cloche ("the bell") into Schneider's finest Cabernet Franc yet. 3 barrels produced.
$60 per bottle, $360 per case (6 bottles)
FUTURES PRICE: $288 for 6 bottles (20% discount).
Minimum purchase: 6 bottles.
